Commodities
For over a decade, d’Afrique has been involved in the importation of various soft commodities into Ghana. Primarily in the rice and sugar markets, we seek to lower the market cost of these commodities, which are a large drain on the country’s foreign exchange, by sourcing from markets close to home. Indeed, we have the distinction of being the only importer of Dangote sugar into Ghana, from Nigeria.
The product is sold in units of 50kg bags, ex-warehouse.
Importation
The importation of commodities into Ghana for domestic usage and re-export to the northern landlocked countries is a new business for d’Afrique. Our entrance into this sector is part of the organic growth of our commodities trading business, which started in the petroleum sector, and leaning on this experience, our success thus far has been in accordance with our expectations.
Portland Cement – d’Afrique is an authorized distributor of Dangote Cement in Ghana. Through a robust and nationwide distribution network, we market this premium brand of cement, grade 42.5, to the formal and informal construction industry.
Partnership
Currently, and through a strategic partnership with the Dangote Group of Nigeria, as well as Flour Mills Nigeria, we are active in the following areas of soft commodities:
Refined sugar – We are currently the sole importer into Ghana of sugar from the Dangote sugar refinery in Apapa, Nigeria, which is incidentally the second biggest single refinery in the world. We market this premium product, which is of quality grade ICUMSA 45, crystalline white. The product is sold in units of 50kg bags, ex-warehouse at a highly competitive price.
As well as Dangote sugar, we also import and market “Golden Penny” sugar from Flour Mills Nigeria.
